Preface
JDM creek fishing rods
Accurate Casting and Creek fishing
Preface
I like open water fishing, saltwater fishing, fly fishing. What I love the most is creek fishing, especially mountain creek fishing. Standing at or in a creek waving a piece of flick casting rod is the ultimate Valium for me.
It's awesome seeing the mountains rising up above from the crooked creek, watching an eagle soar over your head as it makes its way down the stream, and spying on a moose as it drinks from the creek stone are completely relaxed and happy.
Creek fishing is charming like a puzzle. When you make all the pieces fit, you catch a fish! You have to think many elements to be successful. What are small fishes eating? Where are they holed up? What are they looking for? how to cast the light lure bypass the obstacle to ideal location. These are all questions that run through your mind with every cast.
This article is titled 'Definitive guide of CReek Fishing' , in fact it's more like a casual fishing life notes. It will be written by global users who love creek fishing. After anglers sharing the wisdom and idea into it, I think ultimately it will be a profound guide of creek fishing.
JDM's Creek Fishing
There are countless small creeks in Japan, but only a few big rivers. This is why creek fishing tackles in Japan is fully developed compared to it in other countries such as US, Europe. There are some very professional creek fishing master in Japan, such as the author of Enjoy fishing channel In past 7 years, I have bought more than 10 Japanese top creek rods and did the all-round tests on them.
I've found the top Japanese creek rods are not supple noodle rod, they have decent backbone. Say, the master at Enjoy fishing channel uses the Casket and Anglo rods, famous handmade rods in Japan.
I bought Casket and Anglo in 2018, which cost me 802 US dollars and 2100 dollars (I paid extra fee so that I did not wait long time for them). Both rods are not very soft, they have relative strong backbone. I think it's because noodle-like supple rods perform poorly when it comes to flick casting. Casket is softer than Anglo. Here is a rod inspired by Casket, very good rod for anglers to practice flick casting
Myths of Anglo Creek fishing rod
Anglo is the top brand of JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) creek fishing rod.
There are many myths and misunderstanding of it. DanKung got one Anglo 4113 rod and had the insightful fishing tests on it. Overally , Anglo 4113 is a very good fiberglass rod, excellent for creek fishing.
Some myths of it.
1: Anglo Rod is very soft, that's why it's good for flick casting.
--It's wrong. soft Noodle rod is not good for flick casting at all. I found a obvious feature when shaking this Anglo rod. When you shake other fiber glass rod(such as some noodle rod) with your hand, the front part of the rod and the rear part of the rod are in a reverse S-shape, and the blank can't stop shaking at all. And this not happens with Anglo fiberglass rod at all, shaking Anglo 4113, is like shaking a carbon fiber rod.
Because the Anglo 4113 rod has a relatively strong backbone, it points very well when casting and can be very precise in controlling the landing point when targeting fishes around or behind the obstacle.
2: Anglo is made of solid tip so the sensitivity is excellent.
--it's wrong. Anglo 's tip is hollow which makes it excellent casting ability , but not very good in sensitivity. Anglo rod is design for trouts, not tiny fishes.
3:similar creek rod
Fiberglass rod Vs Carbon rod
In creek fishing, many high level anglers use the fiberglass rods. Such as the famous 'Enjoy fishing channel' at Youtube.

What are the unique features of fiberglass rod coupled with creek fishing? Here is my 14-year experience of creek fishing with both fiberglass rod and carbon rods. Just for your reference.
Glass fiber and carbon fiber is quite different material. Carbon fiber has high elasticity, fiberglass relatively low elasticity than carbon fiber. Fiberglass rod springbacks slow and strong. That's why many people use fiberglass rods for flick casting, backhand casting and other high-skill casting. Angler have much better control in the whole process of casting motion with fiberglass rods, more comfortable, completely more enjoyable experience of skillful casting motions.
Accurate Casting and Creek fishing
Accurate casting is not must for creek fishing. But it's a skill that doubles your fishing fun! It's an exciting thing that casting lure to a small grass hole that others can not reach. Consistency is crucial, so cast the same way every time until you have mastered the motion. Here is an angler who cast accurately and freely
